Z-HFO-1336mzz, cis-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene, CAS No. 692-49-9, EINECS No. 700-651-7, molecular formula C4H2F6; structural formula CF3CH=CHCF3. It is a transparent, colourless, non-flammable, thermally stable, low toxicity, environmentally friendly liquid developed for use as a carrier liquid for cleaning, drying and industrial solvents. It is a clear, colourless, thermally stable, low toxicity, environmentally friendly liquid developed for use as a carrier fluid for cleaning, drying and industrial solvents. Typical applications include: metal degreasing, electronics cleaning, precision cleaning, rinsing agents, aerosol solvents, heat transfer fluids, foaming agents, etc.

Z-HFO-1336mzz is chemically stable at elevated temperatures despite its unsaturated chemical properties. In the presence of carbon steel, Z-HFO-1336mzz remains essentially stable in terms of decomposition (dehydrofluorination), polymerisation, oxidation, hydrolysis and structural and positional isomerisation, which is critical when there are significant differences in the key properties of the isomers (e.g. boiling point, toxicity, etc.) The chemistry of Z-HFO-1336mzz has cemented a shift from the traditional notion that the fluorinated olefins in that the use of the double bond as a workhorse is necessarily unacceptably reactive.

Z-HFO-1336mzz is compatible with most metals. It shows good stability after exposure to stainless steel, copper, brass and aluminium at 100 degrees C (212 degrees F) for 2 weeks. Overall, Z-1336mzz is not compatible with strong alkalis; therefore, contact with very alkaline process materials is not recommended. Contact with strong Lewis acids, such as aluminium trichloride, alkali and alkaline earth metals, metal powders and metal salt powders is also not recommended. z-HFO-1336mzz is compatible with most plastics. Most plastics show good compatibility when exposed at room temperature for 2 weeks. Z-HFO-1336mzz shows compatibility with elastomers when exposed to most elastomers at room temperature for 2 weeks. Reversible swelling is expected for some fluorinated elastomers.

The low vapour pressure and high thermal stability of Z-HFO-1336mzz make it particularly suitable for organic Rankine cycle applications, where a heat source (e.g. exhaust gases from stationary or mobile internal combustion engines) is available at relatively high temperatures, resulting in high cycle energy efficiency. In addition, the efficiency of the ORC of the Z-HFO-1336mzz will benefit from the use of a recycler. For example, an organic Rankine cycle with Z-HFO-1336mzz operating between 25 °C and 160 °C in the recuperator can achieve an attractive net cycle efficiency of approximately 25%. the chemical stability of HFO-1336mzz-Z at temperatures above its critical temperature allows it to cycle across the critical ORC resulting in higher cycle efficiencies, and Z-HFO-1336mzz can enable more environmentally sustainable power generation platforms to achieve sustainable goals (e.g. reduction of non-renewable energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions) with attractive economic benefits. The technology is currently being tested in the laboratory and in the field for various target applications.

In addition, Z-HFO-1336mzz is a zero ODP low GWP blowing agent. It has the advantages of currently used hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) blowing agents: non-organic volatile compounds (non-VOC), suitable boiling point low coefficient of conductivity and non-combustible. z-HFO-1336mzz blowing agent is a stable liquid at room temperature, boiling point 33°C is basically the same as HCFC-141b, can achieve non-differential switching, gas thermal conductivity at 25°C is only 10.7mW/mK, insulation Good effect. Its ODP is zero and GWP is 89, so it has little impact on the environment. It has been included by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program as an acceptable alternative to ozone-depleting substances in a variety of polyurethane, polyisocyanurate and phenolic foam applications. z-HFO-1336mzz foam blowing agent has physical properties quite similar to HCFC-141b, the main blowing agent for polyurethane foam, under the phased out under the Montreal Protocol due to its ozone-depleting properties. Although Z-HFO-1336mzz has not yet been promoted on a large scale in the field of refrigerator insulation in China, there are many enterprises that are trying to apply this new blowing agent in the field of refrigerator insulation. As a way to improve the energy efficiency of refrigerators Z-HFO-1336mzz whether used alone or mixed foaming, can be optimised to achieve an optimal ratio to reduce thermal conductivity and improve foam insulation performance. z-HFO-1336mzz and methyl formate (MF) and methylal (ML) mixing is an application direction, but for its flash point research found that Z-HFO- 1336mzz will lower the flash point of the mixture, the mechanism of which needs to be further studied.
